Term 2 Updates

Many thanks to colleagues who attended the first meeting on 10th Decemeber 2008. We discussed creativity in RE. Examples were shared about the use of ICT (eg Blogs) as well using Play-doh in lessons. We are going to feedback at the next meeting ideas about how Play-doh could be used within GCSE lessons to add the wow factor and cater for different learning styles. RE & Community Cohesion

There are strong connections between RE and Community Cohesion. Edexcels new GCSE 'Religion and Life' will replace the existing Social Harmony unit with a new unit on Community Cohesion. Learners will have the opportunity to learn about this important area and hopefully develop the skills needed for Community Cohesion.

In 2008-9 Dixons City Academy will be joinging Rhodesway School working on the Schools Linking Network Community Cohesion Projects. This will involve two year nine classes working with artists on the topic 'Personal Journeys'. This will encourage students to share their experiences and learn about the benefits of a diverse community which they are lucky to experience.

Please add comments about other ways RE can contribute creatively to the Community Cohesion Agenda.

Welcome

I have been teaching RE at Dixons City Academy for the past seven years and have worked with many schools and colleagues across Bradford schools and beyond. This year I am hoping to establish a RE Network group to share good practice especially in sharing strategies and examples of creative learning and teaching in RE.

Please leave a comment if you would like to attend one of our network meetings which will be happening over the academic year 2008-9.
